How to convert salary to hourly
Divide the annual salary by the number of paid hours in a year. For a standard full-time job that's 40 hours × 52 weeks = 2,080 hours. So $65,000 ÷ 2,080 = $31.25 per hour. Going the other way, multiply the hourly rate by 2,080: $25/hr × 2,080 = $52,000 per year.
A useful shortcut: double the hourly rate and read it in thousands. $20/hr ≈ $40k, $35/hr ≈ $70k, $50/hr ≈ $100k. It is accurate to within a rounding error for 40-hour weeks.

All figures are gross pay before taxes and deductions.
Your true hourly rate
Salaried employees are paid for vacation and holidays, so the hourly rate per hour *worked* is higher than the simple division suggests. Enter your days off and the calculator shows both figures. Someone on $65,000 with 15 vacation days and 10 holidays actually earns about $34.85 for each hour they are at work. This is the number to use when comparing a salaried job against a contract or hourly role that has no paid time off.
Comparing a salaried job to a contract rate
Contractors and 1099 workers pay both halves of Social Security and Medicare (15.3% instead of 7.65%), buy their own health insurance, and get no paid leave. A common rule of thumb is that a contract rate needs to be 25%–40% higher than the equivalent salaried hourly rate to break even. If a salary works out to $40/hr, look for $50–$56/hr on contract.

How do I calculate overtime?+
